Jim Leney

I ran competitively for many years, starting when I was in high school. My best event has been the 10K race. My 10K PR is 34:04 (1990 Mercury News 10K). I've also run six marathons, including the 1990 Vancouver Marathon, which I ran in just under 3 hours. I had to scale back in 2000 when I was diagnosed with a sciatica problem in my back. I have a good weight program for strengthening. I stay on the dirt mostly and only run 1 or 2 days a week. I also do a lot of bicycling and swimming on occasion. In June 2006 I completed my first century (100 miles cycling) in raising money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. I followed this in May 2007 as a TNT cycle captain and participant in the half-ironman distance at the Wildflower triathlon (swim, bike, run). In 2008 I returned to the cycling team, this time as a mentor and ride support. I will repeat this in 2009.

I have also gotten back into my high school hobby of astronomy which Evan and Hannah are interested in now. I have even taken a few pictures with my digital camera.

Astronomy Photos

I have enjoyed astronomy for most of my life. When I was a boy, I saved up my paper route money to buy a telescope. I still have the telescope, and now I enjoy attaching a digital camera to it and photographing stars and planets. These photographs include a total lunar eclipse and jupiter.
